Lesson Overview
Our awareness is constantly shaped by the impressions we receive from the world. These impressions can take the form of sensations, emotions, or thoughts, and they leave a lasting imprint on our field of awareness. Learning to tune into these experiences with mindfulness allows us to develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and our environment. By receiving impressions without judgment, we cultivate the ability to adaptively engage with our inner and outer worlds.
Guided Meditation
This meditation focuses on cultivating awareness of the impressions that leave an imprint on our bodies, emotions, and thoughts. By scanning the body and observing sensations without judgment, participants learn to attune to the felt sense of their experiences. This foundational practice emphasizes receiving impressions with openness, helping participants tap into the energy within themselves and connect to the present moment.
Mindfulness Exercises
After you finish the guided meditation, try an exercise below that you believe will be most helpful for you!
AI Mindfulness Coach
Our AI Mindfulness Coach (link here) can help you think of the many different types of qualities you could use to observe bodily sensations that you feel. Try to describe a sensation you feel in your body and then ask for help in other ways you could mindfully inquire about the sensation.
Journal Reflections
Reflect on a sensation you noticed during the body scan. What qualities stood out, and how did observing it make you feel?
Write about a time when focusing on a bodily sensation helped you understand your emotional state. (consider the moment you journal as an option!)
How do external impressions (e.g., sights, sounds, smells) influence your mood?
Mindful Moments
Gently press your feet into the ground and feel the connection between your body and the earth while seated or walking.
As you begin to eat or go to sleep, inhale to body scan from feet to head, then exhale to scan from head to feet about five times. Observe how you feel after.
